How do you get the part numbers for paint for the older 60's/70's evinrudes? And where is a good place to get the paint?
Thanks.

How old is "older"? The AOMCI website may have some info. (antique outboard club) Just google AOMCI and get into the ask questions section.

aomci.org is for sure the place to ask. Another option if you want factory original color paint for a spot-on restoration is nymarine.ca (North York marine, I believe) I'd check out that site for decals and such, as well. I believe I saw where he was making 70's stickers as well. nana's decals on ebay might have decals, too.
I'll look in my hard drive and see if I can find some paint codes for you and repost if I find some.

Check the link, below. Its an interesting place - they have the paint codes for old cars, old outboards, etc. They are also a supplier for home redecoration projects.

One of the best aspects of this business, though, is that you can send them a part off of a motor that you are restoring, and they will determine a paint code by using a color analyzer on it. They will then mix the paint and package it in either a standard paint can, or in a custom made spray can!.

I used Tower Paint for a refurbishment project on a pair of 6hp Johnsons that I wanted to look identical. I bought the paint for the first motor at my local OMC/BRP dealer, stripped and painted it .... and then found out that BRP had changed paint suppliers. By the time I finished the first motor and went back to buy some more "Forest Green" for the second one, the dealer had the new paint on his shelves and it definately was not the same color as the old paint.

I found Tower Paint on the net, sent them a freshly paint part off of the first motor and ended up buying several spray cans of the stuff that they mixed - it was perfect! This was about ten years ago and I believe that I paid about ten bucks a can for the custome mixed and packaged paint. Not bad in my book!

Any Bombardier dealer will have a touchup paint reference chart in their Parts and Accesssories guide. They will have the color codes and the specs you need.
