Paint transom assembly while on boat?

I would like to clean up and repaint my transom assembly this winter and curious if anybody has done this with it installed on the boat? I understand that to take the transom assembly off the motor needs to be removed, but I really see my self doing all that... Anyone done this before?

For an I/O....yes you would have to remove the motor in order to remove the transom assembly off of the boat....What i did was remove the drive...cleaned and preped the transom..... mask off the boat paint then prime and paint.

Then make a stand for your drive and do the same.

Or you could try and brush the paint on!
