Re: paint

Gelcoat is not a paint. It is a polymer that is the first layer in the mold when laying up a fiberglass mold.
You don't see boat paint on cars.

Re: paint

Here I go, going to get blasted again..

you don't see marine paint on cars because, since it says 'marine', it more expensive than automotive paint.

Many home boat builders actually use latex exterior house paint (High gloss porch and deck paint) on their boats: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dwforum/ The argument being that, especially above the waterline, a boat sees similar conditions to the outside of your house.

Also the argument is where are more R&D dollars spent in the paint industry? On latex house paints.

Personally I would not use house paint below the water line, but my upper decks and interior is painted with an off the self enamel from the Farm store, actually farm implement - tractor paint...

Re: paint

Automotive paints work just fine on a trailer boat, so if you plan on using one don't worry about it.
