Does anyone have a source for reasonably priced spray cans of paint for a 1956 Fastwin? I found one site that wants $20/can and I need 3 colors. Thanks, Rick

Re: Paint

Thanks, Tasha, but the only ones that have the correct colors for my year motor have it for $20.00 each. Rick

Re: Paint

If you're not a purist you can try your local auto store and look for the closest matching paint.

Re: Paint

I am not a purist, but I wanted a good match, mostly for the cover. The motor looks very good for its age, but there are the normal scratches and chips. I get alot of looks when it's on the back of the boat I built, and though a good touch up/repaint would turn more heads. It really is a good looking motor compared to the style Evinrude used just after it.Rick

Re: Paint

Post a pic of the engine and the boat :)

And yes, the '56-58's were a good color... in '59 it all went to crap with the fibreglass hoods.

Re: Paint

I have a '58 evin. 18 hp outboard that I am painting also. I actually found at the auto paint store and they actually found the dark blue evinrude color in their books and made me some. I tried to have them colormatch the cowl but liked the duplicolor light blue metallic better as mentioned above. I also just painted my '57 18hp johnson with Peter McDonald's paint from NYmarine also mentioned above and was very, very pleased. It had good coverage, didn't run very easily at all, and hardened up very nicely. It also bonded to the lower unit very well and didn't come off which is hard to do. Although expensive to me, it was worth it and I'll buy from him again. One more suggestion---buy his decals as they are much, much better and easier to work with compared to some of the water slide decals I've bought before. Once again, a little more expensive, but worth it. The water slide decals I've bought in the past are really easy to screw up! The fellow from nymarine is also very helpful and I liked doing business with him. Here's a pic of my freshly painted boat taken tonight and '57 johnson 18. I'll post a pic of my '58 18 when I get it like I want it if you're interested.
Just my opinion,
JBJ
