Re: paint

You can sand it off. I have used a high speed wire cup brush on a small grinder in the past and finished it off with sandpaper. It is just aluminum casting under the paint.

Bob

Re: paint

Would be a good idea to use special paint or primer on the aluminum to make it last.

Re: paint

OMC makes lower end paint (cans of spray paint) including primer, paint, and clear anti-foul. I used them 3 yrs ago and it is holding up well.

Re: paint

I did my outboard recently and was going to use omc engine paint,,, then I read the can, Its just acrylic lacquer,,, so I went to a paint shop and bought a heap of it at less then half the price of the OMC stuff..

then I got a few cans of etch primer.

I did like bob_vt and used a wirebrush cup in a drill and went over the whole thing with that, gets rid of loose paint, then lots of wet and dry and considerable work to sand it smooth and feather any edges.. took a fair while.

then lay on a few coats of etch primer, which will show up a heap of spots you missed, fix them and etch it again, let it dry and lay on layer after layer of the acrylic lacqurer, I did nine coats I think.. then I got come clear coat and gave it a nice final coat with that..

came out looking pretty good.

hope thats of some assistance.

regards

Frank
