We went to the boat show in Syracuse,NY today. Mostly for something to do. We found a boat we both feel in love with ( Truimph) 19'DC). I have had painted tailers for the most part and the boat comes with a Galvanized trailer. What do you guys thing of the galvanized trailers.

I love mine. It seems to hold up to stones MUCH better than my painted trailer. Stones cause chips in the paint(then rust) on one trailer, but have seen no damage on the galvanized.

Galvanised trailors are almost foolproof. If you intend the use for either fresh water or salt. Little or no maintanence and easy wash down. The only reservation I have is thieft. Galvanised trailors all tend to look the same, which makes it hard for recovery.
Ross

Bubbaboater
If you are going to keep it more than two years or go anywhere near SaltWater get the Galvanized or better yet get a Aluminum trailer.
Also ask for disc brakes, much better than drums.

The Galvanized can rust also but my 1980 still good and has very little rust with mixed Saltwater/Freshwater use.

Like anything else, there are varying degrees of quality resulting from prep and process.....painted or galvanized. Galvanized should cost more and last longer, since the adhesion process is different and more protective.

Thanks for the replies. I feel the galvanized trailer would be a good trailer and last as long or longer as the painted and not have as much maintance.

Theres no such thing as galvanising these days. It would have to be dipped in straight hot zinc but these days it is done with zinc/aluminium mixture ^_^ So its not classified as galvanising

y2jericho
About 50 percent of the trailers here are galvinized. Yes they are welded then dipped. The frames galvanized inside and outside, all the hardware also. Alone the coast almost 100 percent but inland mor like 25 percent. Aluminum is the new thing.

babbaboater... Those Triumph boat are made of plastic, I believe. Not fiberglass. The design was great but the finish was not shinney, may not be able to wax. Double check this out; as far as I would be concerned the jury is still out on plastic. Just a thought. :( I was there on Thursday, what kind of crowd on Saturday. The weather has been cold. Another great site is www.thehulltruth.com Galvanized is the only way to go!

There was a big crowd there Saturday. The Triumph is a plastic materail. It does have its pros and cons. The more I have read I have some question for the dealer. There is a dealer down the road that as a Mirrocraft Dual Impact that is a 2002.
The guy that runs the place is a great guy and said he would service anything I bought from any place. He also said that he would work a good deal for the Mirrocraft. I am going to talk with him in the next couple days. The girl friend feel in love with the Triumph and the room and storage it has. I still kind of like the aluminim boats. I like the idea of the Triumphs not dinging and denting but I have heard alot uneven thickness and storage lids that leak and screws coming loose. The next few days will answer a lot of questions.

Bubba,

If you want "flash", go with painted. If you want practicality and long life (especially in salt water) GO WITH GALVANIZED.

Noone ever thought a galvanized trailer was "pretty", but they do last longer.
