I bought a 16' 1977 Elite (made by glassco)fiberglass fishing boat that I would like a paint in the winter months after the fishing season end. Whats the best method to strip and paint it to get the job done right?

Re: painting a boat

i just finished doing mine and i must say it looks great alls i can say is sand sand sand interlux paint is by far the best do all your body work with interlux body puddy then sand lots more now very important is to use a fiberglass cleaner to clean the hull before painting that is very important to do when applying paint its very simple it takes 2 people to do it right 1st person uses a small roller and spreads paint out evenly thin layers work best the 2nd person follows with a foam brush and very gently passes over paint just to take marks out from roller i did 3 coats on mine and wow now brush or roller marks at all sand between all coats also THIN layers of paint anything more than that the paint will run then its a failed job i painted a 16 runabout and used less than 3 liters of paint you can get everything you need to paint all in 1 store and i think it cost me $200 canadian to do the whole job

Brian

Tradin is right, sand, sand, sand. The actual painting is quite easy. The prep work is where it's at. I too used Interlux's Briteside polyurethane although I opted to spray mine. Go here Link for a look see.
