I am about to paint my fiberglass boat and I have been told that I can add the pearl and the clear coat to the paint.Could someone shed some light on this. Also how much clear coat do I have to use for this application, thats if I can add to the paint. The paint I am using is a General Paint hi-gloss blue Enamel. The pearl is a blue illusion dry powder pearl.Hopefully someone can shed a little light on this for me. Thankyou

Clear coat is a finish of it's own that is applied after the painting is done. You don't add it to the paint itself. Clear coat can be used with most anything but works best in what they call a "basecoat/clearcoat" application. The base coat goes on dull and the clear coat adds the shine. The pros.....easy to use, looks good. The con....it's quite a bit more expensive than enamel.
If you're using enamel (either acrylic or synthetic), you can add a catalytic hardener (highly reccommended) and it will help it have a shiny, hard surface.
I did my boat with acrylic enamel w/hardener 3 years ago and it still looks as good as the day I painted it.

Re: painting boat

some paints you can add clear right in to the mix. endura is one.usually mix component a/b 50/50.but when mixing the clear in you go 25 a 25 clear and 50 b .painted a dirt bike that way.a lot more coats as the paint becomes more transparent.should have done the first 2 coats with regular mix.got huge depth thou ).always check with the paint rep.
