painting bottom with trailer removed

i got a 86 bayliner capri 16ft,i want to sand and paint the bottom without the trailer there.can i jack up the back with a floor jack and use blocks with wood to support it and use a engine hoist with a strong strap around the front and drive the trailer out from the boat?is this a good idea? :) thanks

Sure.... Go for It....<br />Block it on the 2 rear corners,+ the center up front...

Drop your trailer coupler to the ground and put your blocking directly under the transom. You want that blocking to be very stable, you can build them out of 2x6s, make them sort of like mini sawhorses, and conect the two to eliminate the chance they could spread and drop the boat on you when you are underneath. Once the back is blocked, grab that engine lift and attach it to the front of the boat either by a strap under the hull or to the bow loop (if it is sturdy), and raise it. The raising action will cause the entire boat to come off the trailer. You may have to put a block under the front, roll the trailer as far forward as you can, then put another block behind the trailer, get it out from under, then have the final blocking towards the front on the horizontal portion of the keel. Just be careful, even a 16 footer will kill you...
