Painting Gearhousing and Skeg question.

Gday all from Aussieland.
Just rebuilt water pump and base and decided to clean up mating surface to mid section as it was chipping/flaking.Ive cleaned it back to metal.
1.Should i prime first then paint with marine enamel,or just paint?
2.Can I do the same for the Skeg.

Just my 2 cents...

Usually these pieces parts are made of aluminum...in which case you would likely want to give 'em a light coat of zinc chromate, before giving them a top coat of your favorite color...usually a light greenish-yellowish kinda colored primer...
