i am planning to repaint my 1989 evenrude 200 this winter. can anyone give me some info or tips on-<br /><br />how to remove decals and prep the motor surface.<br />also a little advice on which paint to use sure would help.<br /><br />also can this be done with the motor on the transom

deriter <br /><br />A couple of years ago I decided to paint my 70 HP evinrude. I went to home depot and got some stripper(Don't remember brand) that you spray on and rinse off. Works great! Takes off everything, including decals. I then sanded everthing down smooth. I primed the lower unit with zinc chomate primer and shot it twice using 2 cans of tempo spray paint. Then hit it with 2 coats of clear. Still looks good and sticks very well. As for the cowl, I basically did the same thing, except I ordered custom decals from a guy on E-Bay. Did some pinstriping to spruce it up a bit and it's a one of a kind. Not hard to do, just tedious!<br /><br />Got the paint here:<br /><br /> web page

Prep as per (Rickdb1boat) recomended, as an old bodyman I prefer the catalized products be it acrylic enamel or a urethane due to the resistance to oils and fuels! Only problem is with hazardous material issues! Some states frown on using them in your driveway! Aso you need access to a spray gun and compressor! I prefer Imrom by Dupont, It is extremely durable and you can spill anything on it and it will come up shining! Its also very slick!<br /><br />Hasbeen
