I have removed the carpet from the sole of my boat and plan to paint it using a non-skid paint provided by interlux.

The existing condition of my sole is not exactly smooth. I am in the process of removing all of the carpet glue and the surface is not completely flat. It is smooth, but is filled with tiny craters in the existing resin throughout.

Do I need to sand the surface completely smooth, or does a primer/filler fill these in?

Thanks!!
