So much for my theory on zincs.... There is a ID tag on the port side of my leg. As there is a fair bit of paint flaking off all around it I was wondering if I could safely remove the pop rivits that hold it on so I can prep and paint behind it and then put back on. I was just worried where the little inside ends of the pop rivits might fall if I can't grab them as I drill them out. Thanks for looking.

Let's try this in the Restoration section. The paint experts hang mostly over here. Good luck!

you going to spray bomb the leg?

Leave the tag in place, prep the piece for paint, put a generous coating of heavy grease over the tag (and only the tag), and then spray away to your hearts content.

when the paint is dry, wipe the grease off the tag with a rag - Done.

That was my original plan, but then I started over thinking and wondered if there was much or any corrosion behind the plate.

I don't think I would worry about it much unless I was finding lots of corrosion elsewhere too
