Hi there,

I am just about to start the rebuild of my boat here in AUS. Its a haines v16 runabout. 16 foot in length.

I am interested how to go about painting the underside of the boat. The boat will be painting using a roll and tip method in a shed (with limited space). I dont think it is practical for me to flip the boat because I have little equipment to safely do this, and most of the work will be on my own. I may at times have 1 or 2 people max to help.

How have you guys gone about the painting of the underside on your boats. I need a solution that would allow one person to safely be able to do it on their own.

Thanks heaps!!

Nick

You'll probably get a lot of methods but I just jacked mine up, pulled the trailer out and supported on 4x4's across empty 55 gal drums with a homemade cradle out of 2x4's. With a little adjustment I could tilt it from one side to the other enough to work on one side. Good Luck.

Dave.

 It sure would be nice to have a shop like that, :D guess i'm labeling my project.... "Under The Shade Tree".......... :D I guess i could alway's hang the boat from one of the tree branches hmmmm.......second thoughts on that, the neighbor is already casting unapproving glances in the back yard... :D

Having the shop and proper tools does make a big difference

The entire boat will be stripped including all wiring, engine, controls, interior EVERYTHING! The hull would probably weigh close to 500 kgs (its really a solid heavy thing). Do you have any pics of the cherry picker method.

My biggest issue is the length of the shed I am doing the work in. The boat is 16 feet and the shed would only be 18 feet long so therefore space is limited. Its cold over here at the moment, so was thinking about doing the majority of the sanding and prep work while it was on the trailer and then taking it off for painting in the shed with heaters. I just dont know how i will paint and prepare the bottom of the boat.

Cheers

Nick
