Hi

I'm planning on painting my 21ft boat.
I'm getting it done by professionals.
They suggested I use Polyurethane Paint instead of Gel Coat. They said it's less maintainance especially since my hull is Navy Blue.
Can anyone share thier experience with this type of paint? :(

Thanks

Re: Painting with Polyurethane - pros & cons-

As a retired bodyman and having painted several boats, Ill give my two cents worth!
I presume you mean the whole boat! If just the top, Imron will last forever! And is extremly durable!
It kind of depends if you are going to leave your boat in the water! Almost always in my experience anything but gelcoat will blister if left in the water! But even factory gelcoat blisters over the years and sometimes sooner! As far as Urethanes go Imron by Dupont is by far the best choice for a boat, although the most expensive! It is VERY slick which makes it easier to clean and dosnt blister as easily as other urethanes Ive used! Preporation is the key, if used on the bottom sand with 320 and use no primer, only on repaired areas! DO NOT SAND WITH ANYTHING FINER OR IT WILL BLISTER FOR SURE!

Hasbeen

Thanks Hasbeen.......
I always appreciate others advice.

And yes, it's the whole boat being painted. Inside and out.
Can anyone tell me, if I do scratch the hull (topside) can I just sand abit then buff the area? Navy blue is abit touchy.........

Thanks
