Mrs. M and I are planning our next trip ( about a year from now) to Costa Rica. We are planning on traveling to the Osa Peninsula as we really love it there with it being so remote , but I would really like to do the trip via Panama City. I really want to see the canal and related sites!! We will be traveling with our 7 year old daughter who is a great , adventuresome traveler. This will be her 3rd time to CR with us.

As we were discussing this option, I thought that instead of flying from Panama City to Puerto Jimenez, CR, we might be able to take a ferry/ boat to Golfito,CR or Puerto Jimenez. ( that is the nearest city to our end destination- Bosque del Cabo- southern-most point on the Osa) ) Then I realized the trip would take way too long on a boat.... So what I am thinking of currently is flying closer to Golfito on the Panmanian side, and find some way to get across to the Osa.

There is a ferry from Golfito, CR to Puerto Jimenez that runs a couple times a day, but I was hoping to leave by boat from Panama, kinda just for the adventure.

Has anyone of our members done such a trip? or have some/any advise?

Any tips on cool places in / around Panama City? I really like watching the locks on the Mississippi BTW. Did a few day trip checking those out .....

Anywhere in Panama to catch a boat to CR that might involve a day or two of travel?

Maybe this is just a dream and we will end up flying.....hope not.

PS I tried saving some images of maps, got them edited with arrows and everything but they are barely readable. I am inept at the image thing I guess.
