Hi,

I want to start a program for underprivileged kids and want to pick the best boat for these local waters so that we can sell them easily. Buyers will have questions so I want to have good honest answers. I believe that this info will also help in the build.

I'm having a hard time getting info that is not jaded by boat ownership. I'm probably preaching to the choir here though.

Which of these boats would ride better in chop and be safer should I encounter rough seas. I'm looking at them for economy, I know there are better designs but I need to be able to afford to run it. I'm planning to build a boat in the 23 foot range.

Thanks,
Kim

So i'm a little confused, what exactly are you trying to do? Are you planning on buying boats and then 'flipping' or refurbing them? Or are you planning on manufacturing from the ground up?

My only comment is that if you are planning on refurbing/flipping, you are on the short end of a money losing proposition. When you are talking about a $500 (or free) boat, consider that just a down payment. It will take a couple thousand more to make it seaworthy. And you will never be able to sell it for what you have in it.

Also, a boat for heavy seas means a heavy hull and a deep V design. A design for economy means as shallow a v as possible and as light as possible... See the problem there?

Hi,
Building from ground up. Donated wood from locals initially then boat sales should pay for materials. no profits sought here. The kids will love it I'm sure, they're off the streets, learn to use tools, work as a team, to many benefits to list.

Another site mentioned the PAR Clamdigger which looks interesting but I need to find out if it can be stretched to 20 plus feet.

it's still hard to tell what you are trying to do. If you are starting a boat building school, don't worry about what the boat can do. If you want to take children boating, don't build the boat. And why the reference to some types of boats?
Do you know how to build boats? You can't learn it from a book.

You might google "Glen-L boat plans" for all sorts of boats plans for plywood boats.

They have full plans and even an instruction book for building in plywood. Lots of first time builders have built nice boats using their plans.
