part i.d.?

merc alpha one outer transom plate, there's a collar like part surrounding the bearing. appears to be aluminum. anyone know if this is replaceable or name of part? can't i.d. it in books or on web. current part is deteriorated bad.

That happens due to water in the bellows for LONG periods of time.
You need a complete new (or good used) transom shield of the same vintage.

There is a kit to repair that damage. I have personally never used it... and it is CRAZY expensive for what you get... but here it is if you want to take a look. Repair kit

The only problem with that kit, is that it's a one time thing. When the bellows on the repair part goes bad, THEN you replace the transom shield.
