A friend had her 2001 Merc 90, ELPT, 4-stroke's voltage regulator catch fire. Fortunately for her the engine cover snuffed it out, but not before melting a bunch of stuff in there. Apparently the is a common thing for Mercs and Yamahas. I had no idea.
I am hunting down the parts needed for the repairs but am having difficulty with a few parts, the shift interrupter harness, the CDI module, and another harness that goes through the bottom cowl and to some kind of sensor suspended in a bracket just below the cowl.
The shift interrupter harness has a PN, 84-876178A 1 on it. I have been looking for this in the diagrams on the Merc site and do not see it anywhere. Searching for that PN through Google has also gone nowhere. I tried finding it through the parts manual and cannot find it described so I can get the correct PN for it.
The CDI module seems to be the early one, according to the SN, but on some sites it says that the early part number has been superseded by the late part number. I would imagine that the early and late part numbers are different for a reason, and I wonder why the early number would be superseded by the late one, when there is a split in the SN on the merc parts site.
Early part number, and on the merc parts site says it should be, according to my SN: 804269T 1
Later PN: 804269T 2
As far as the other sensor goes, I'm not even sure what it is, therefore I can't look it up. I'm thinking maybe it's a trim sensor, but I am not sure. I just know the wiring goes through the bottom cowl with the trim wires and it goes to a unit mounted directly under the cowl. This is another part I did not see any pics of in the parts diagrams on the merc site.
Also, are just the connectors for the CDI module available in any way? The bottom connector for the CDI module is melted. It's still usable, but I would replace it if I could find one. Since it will still seal and lock to the module, I couldn't justify the cost of an entire new harness for that section.
MERCURY - ( 90 H.P. (2001 ))
Serial No: 0T318029 Model No: 1F90412YD
Any help sorting this out will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
