So I noticed that one of my stringers in the engine bay is rotten. It is the stringer closest to the transom that's parallel with it. The stringer is not rotten all teh way... its only a spot about 4" x 10" long. The floor of the boat and everything else appears to have no problems... just this one part. I was going to attemp to fix this by cutting out with a jigsaw and dremel the bat part of the stringer and epoxy in a new piece in its palce, as I've heard that with today's epoxies, the epoxied joint will be stronger than the stringer was to begin with (and ofcourse fiberglass over the top). My questions is: Is what I've heard correct? I don't really want to tear up a whole floor just for that one piece. What brand of epoxy should I use?

FYI: It appears that when people get in the boat all wet... the water runs down the floor into the bilge.... thus raining directly onto that stringer. As that's the only place the boat has any rot in it... There's always that one friend who hops into the boat, along with 5 gallons of water, no matter how many times you tell them to please let the water first drip off a little.

You need to rebuild the mounts and then seal the mount holes so no water can follow the lag bolts down. You shouldn't need to beat your recreation buddies over the head for something that should not be a problem in a boat.
