Went to Napa and found what I needed for the temp and oil pressure alarm/buzzer I am putting in my boat. This is for an OMC 4.3 liter but should be the same for any 4.3 liter. The temp switch can go on either head as there is a plug on both sides. Funny thing is, the plug has an odd size (5/16" square) so I had to grind down a 3/8 socket driver to get it out. I maybe they make different size square drives but all I had was that normal 1/4 3/8 and 1/2. For the oil pressure switch, I just tee'd it off where the oil pressure sensor is.
part #'s

temp switch
TS6716 normally open and closes at 200* $16.00

oil switch:
OP6613 normally closed and opens at 6-8 PSI $6.99

Ayuh,....

Don't you have an unused port in the T-Stat Housing or the Intake Manifold,..??

Those plugs in the Heads,... Usually refuse to come Out....

Using a "T" in the oil pressure port is a little risky as the extra mass coupled with engine vibration can stress and break brass fittings. It is done with mechanical gauges but there is less mass to deal with. If you've not seen this happen, at 4500 rpm an engine can dump quarts of oil in the engine bay in a heartbeat. Makes a gosh awful mess.

There are 0 ports on the thermstat housing. I thought there would be seeing one in a picture I found. The water temp sensor is using the port on the intake manifold, I couldn't see any others. Yes the plug was a bugger to get out of the head but that was just to break it loose but it came out fairly easy after it broke loose. I hadn't really thought about the oil pressure deal. There is a plug/hole above the oil filter. Should I mount it there? Is that a pressurized port?

Thanks,
Brett

What exacly do you mean by mechanical gauges anyway? It's not like the pressure switch and sensor weighs anything, maybe a few ounces. I can't see it cracking but maybe it could, hmmmmmm.

I've had 1/8" brass pipe nipples break, but never a problem using steel, and keep it as short possible between the block and the tee for the oil sender and oil switch.

I also have used the same setup using a 1/2" street tee in the intake manifold for the temp switch and sender.

Its only 1" up from the block. I'll see about putting it in the hole above the oil filter. Just need to know if that is a pressurized hole. How would you put a tee in the water temp system, dont those sensors/switched have to be right in the flow?
