Partial oil injection removal

I removed the two oil hoses from the engine oil reservoir and plugged them off with bolts. I've read where there is some type of plastic gear to remove and something needed to fill that space. Removing and plugging the oil hoses is all I did other than using teflon tape to keep the float up so that the alarm won't sound. At a later time I was going to have the gear taken out. Am I alright the way I have it now and running premix?

Re: Partial oil injection removal

You should remove item #19 the pump driveshaft and replace the pump heres a link. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...11209&bnbr=110&bdesc=Oil+Injection+Components
Just remove the pump and pull the shaft, then replace the pump, hang on to the shaft and any other parts removed in case some day someone wants to have oil injection again. With the shaft removed the crank drive gear #5 here. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...bdesc=Crankshaft,+Pistons+and+Connecting+Rods won't continue to wear and the pump won't run dry and destroy it'self.
