Have a chance to pick up a mid 70's 140 mercruiser with an R drive. Boat is a Caravelle 16ft. 50/50 on worth restoring, Hull is solid but interior shot, floors stringer etc. Motor and drive complete and was a lake boat. I was thinking about scrapping for parts, out drive, carb alternator etc. Would anything from this set up be compatible with my 84, 3.0, 470 mercruiser with an Alpha 1 drive. I can pick the whole thing up for less than $ 100.00. Looks like out drives would be able to swap out from what I looked into?

Others will have more specifics, but that 470 engine is not a 3.0l. It's a 3.7 and it's own animal. So motor wise, no interchanges that I know of. Drives might be a different story.

For somebody who wants a parts source for a 470' 3.7L that would be a steal. My buddy just did the same thing, but he paid $250 for boat, trailer, motor and drive.

too cheap to pass up. You're bound to get more than your money's worth.

Thanks guys for the input. Done deal even better than started. I had a spare prop that I was selling off my old outboard. Sold it today for what the whole boat and drive set up cost was going to cost me. such a deal......
