I am restoring a 66 glassmaster with a mercruiser 1 outdrive. I want to completely go through the outdrive and replace the seals, gimball bearing, bellows, gaskets, shift cable and I will need a gasket that goes between the outdrive and transom , which is the old flat gasket. Does anyone know where I can find these parts . I can probably have the transom gasket made if I cant find one , but I cant seem to find a web site that has the other parts that I need. I looked into changing to a later model outdrive but the bolt pattern is different and I would have to cut and redrill the transom. Since the transom is in good shape I want to stick with the merc 1.Thanks very much for any help. gmaster

Ayuh,... It's just minor Trimming,+ drilling a couple more holes,...
By far, the Best idea...

Most of the Mod.1 parts are available right here at iboats mega-mall...
Other can be found from Mercruiser,...
And,...
Some are NLA...

Re: Parts for mercruiser 1 outdrive

I will need gimball bearing, seals, shift cable and a transom gasket. I have a extra mercruiser 160 outdrive. I would need a bell housing, gimball, and transom plate assembly to make it work. I have found these items for $300.00.Do you think this would be a good model to use? Also ,how thick should my transom be on a later model outdrive? Thanks for your help gmaster

I think the old 1966 type 1 still used the gimbal bearing with the shim and retaining ring.
may be hard to find.
I just hope you dont also have the renault 4 cyl 90 hp engine.

Yes it does have gimball bearing with the retaining ring. Is this old type of gimball bearing the only one that will work? My engine is a chevy 4 cylinder that is in very good condition. I hope I will be able to find the u-joint and exaust bellows also. I guess I need to start looking for a late model outdrive. Thanks
