Hi,

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1989 Evinrude 40hp motor (sorry I don't know the serial/model).

I own a 1972 Johnson 40hp that runs well, but it's a pull start. Does anyone know if the electrical components on the '89 would work with the '72? I was hoping to scavenge the starter, solenoid, cables etc.

Furthermore, would any other parts be compatible? The seller is asking $200, and the least I've found the parts to convert my tiller from pull to electric is about $500.

Thanks for any ideas or input.

Check the parts breakdowns for both engines and see what parts will interchange. I would think that with that many years difference that not a lot of parts will swap, but you should check it out. It would not be the first time I was wrong.
