I need the experience ones to help guide me through the purchase of parts to convert my volvo penta to fully closed cooling. I have seen posts from 5.7L and 7.4L who has done it, and I am looking to do the same.
Which aftermarket manifolds and risers are needed, and full system heat exchanger. I was thinking about not getting the Merc 5.0 full system and leaning towards the systems used for the Merc big blocks. I was out fishing last week (9am), and water surface temp was 82 degrees!

I have a 2007 VP 5.0L GXi-G
It has power steering and outdrive is duo-prop. The hot water heater also gets it heat from block when not on ac power. I want to buy the right parts and ride this rodeo once.

I will post pics later. System keeps coming back with "error uploading image". Files are JPEG and 330KB.

In the meantime, lets discuss options!

The VP GXi-G (raw cooled) and GXi-GF (engine block cooled) was in production from 2006-2007. They use the same exhaust manifolds(EM) and elbow/riser(E/R) (https://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-explodedview-7746180-25-10004.aspx). This setup makes it possible to use existing VP parts with some modification whereas the AQ series made it almost impossible using existing parts. See pic below.

The modification for non AQ series include a fabricated 16 gauge stainless steel gasket that block the water ports in between the EM and E/R. The EM already has a plugged port on opposite end of EM that will be used for coolant return to HE. Good luck getting that plug out without some serious elbow grease. :)
With the plug out and blockoff plate in place, you have 100% succeeded keeping you EM on coolant and isolated from raw water. Now time for E/R. There are some plugs on the elbows, but I will have to go take pics to see if raw water flow would be enough. You may can get creative and and use a T pipe to route raw water through 2 of those ports or drill a port big enough yourself. If you can do one or the other, this will let you line back up to the exhaust pipe (Y pipe) that exit the outdrive. Ok, back to reality!
VP introduced these 3" and 6" riser extensions (https://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-explodedview-7746180-25-10005.aspx and https://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-explodedview-7746180-25-10006.aspx). These have blocked ports that are big enough for raw water exit. If you introduce these riser extensions then you will have to accomodate for the height offset where elbows connect to exhaust pipe (y pipe) that exit outdrive. The easiest solution for adjusting the offset is to purchase some rubber exhaust hose to bridge the height offset. No regular hose will do, exhaust hose is needed here. With the coolant cooling the EM and exhaust, and raw water additionally cooling the exhaust and E/R...the rubber exhaust hose will be fine. Later i will be discussion raw water pump, thermostat, acid wash engine block, EM, and E/R.
