password?

My nephew was 'playing' with my mom's computer and put a password on it which he promptly forgot. Anyone know how to remove it?

Depending on the type of computer there is a jumper on the motherboard. Consult the manual.<br /><br />oh... and keep the nephew away after it's fixed!<br /><br />Bob

Remove the password?? depends....Did he password the computers bios or the operating system??<br /><br />Pulling the motherbaord bios battery will reset the bios password. Linux has a small utility to view, change, or reset the password for W2K or XP boxes.

Yez - some motherboards can be reset by removing the battery, some simply doesn't have one!<br /><br />Look for a resetting jumper by consulting the manual. Some takes a 'power off-jumper move- power up-power off-resituate jumper-power up' sequence to reset - others just need a shorting of two points when power is off.

If its the operating system (micrsoft that is) that is pasworded, and its NOT NT based (microsoft) just hit "ESC" when it asks for the pasword, then click "start" "find" "files or folders" type "*.pwl" for what to find (without the "'s) click on the one that is his (usualy name.pwl) and delete it! Much more intense to delete/change a pasword on NT based OS. Maybe this will help!
