Hi Paul,

If you remember I'm in the process of converting my evi 40 to manual start tiller steer. I have all the parts on now but am having trouble with the stop switch. The threads on the switch don't seem to be long enough to get the nut on the back when you put it through the cable clamp. This switch also has a couple spacers that don't show on the parts list. The switch does look like it's right.

The first one I bought on ebay from a guy in Canada never arrived so I bought this one from TC outboard. I'm now $40 into this switch and need help/advice.

Thanks,
Alden

I have same switch with same pieces and washers on my Evinrude 18. Since my motor is a tiller to begin with there is no cable clamp, just a hole in the housing. The switch and associated washers you show above fits fine. Do you have to remove the cable clamp so you just have the hole?

Sorry for the delay. But I'm afraid I'm not going to be a lot of help here. It looks like the bracket on the old switch (the one that didn't arrive) replaces the cable clamp. Is it possible that the bracket is the cable clamp itself? Strange that the part isn't called out if it is different.

I'll try to gather more information on the assembly.

I figured it out. The washers/plates are not used on the 40. The large nut does not go behind the cable clamp. It actually goes inside and is locked in that way. Now to hook up those wires......
