To all my friends here and those who I have not chatted with yet :
Please pay Attention to any recall to your boat or your car !
Today we had a very responsible woman hit her house with her car , The most likely cause was an open recall on her car , The throttle stuck . By no means am I saying that it caused it but given the circumstances and the fact that I watched her drive past my place at normal speed , I cant reach any other conclusion . She was hurt and transported to the hospital with what I hope were minor injuries.
Do NOT ask me for info as to the brand or the nature of the recall , I do not want this to become a part of a court case ! Please respect that and also NO pictures will be posted , I have too much respect for my friends than to do that .
Please pay attention to any notification you get concerning a recall of anything .. Looking out for my friends on here !

Then I'll take the opportunity to mention the Blinds Recall. Please take the time to call or e-mail for a repair kit or kits if you own some of the affected blinds that haven't yet been retrofitted.

Hope everyone was OK.

BTW - Brakes on every car made can overcome a stuck throttle with ease, even WOT.

Sorry to hijack this but....

Blinds....

Never mind I had a rant about the blinds but decided it just wasn't the right time or the right place....

Re: Pay Attention to Recalls !!!!

there is a certain auto manufacturer out there, that has had dozens and dozens of fires caused by their vehicles. They are finally under recall.
Several people have been killed and seriously injured, homes and garages burned to the ground. But I'm not gonna tell you what company it is. ???? huh?

NOT.

Its Ford, trucks and explorers, "voluntary recall expanded to many more model years. cruise control disengage switch buried INSIDE the brake fluid reservoir, the seal goes bad and kaboom.

I believe they have that problem on Tauruses too.

But no, Toyota never does anything wrong. And they don't delay recalling vehicles for rusted frames either.

I agree, pay attention to any/all recalls. But I am curious, in a case of a stuck accelerator, why don't people put the car in neutral and still stand on the brakes? The car will stop then. It must be a panic thing?

Turning the key off can sometimes lock the steering so yo need to be careful with that one.

Yeah, very very bad idea. Not only does the steering wheel lock, you lose your vacuum assisted brakes.

I say take it out of gear. And with all modern cars, they have a rev limiter, so you won't be real likely to damage the engine.

Way way back when I had a 81 grand prix, I was slowing down to make a turn and the engine died. The road was snow and ice covered, steering and brake went away. I threw it in park and the car slid across the road into the curb and stopped. No idea what kind of damage I did by doing that.

I've done this with every vehicle I've ever owned, ever since I had a throttle stick 28 years ago. It actually was a frozen throttle return spring, as it was -44*F.

Yes you lose the power assist on the brakes.
And yes you lose the power assist on the steering.

But I have never completely lost the brakes, or had the steering lock.

Heck, I did it last night in the grocery store parking lot.

Gives you a feel for what you will need to do if you ever lose power at speed.

And a reminder of what it was like without power steering and brakes.

The pinto, yes that was bad. But only in the way Ford handled it.

But the Chevy truck? Please, there were 2 Billion, yes I said Billion of them on the road, and only 57 fires. Heck, Dateline even had to rig explosives to get a flash fire. That one is overblown, and mostly BS. I believe 6 people died as a result of a Chvy truck fire. But they never say how many of them had Serious injuries due to the force of the crash, and would have died anyway.

Aha...ding, ding, ding.....the blind recall is exactly the same. How many millions of them have been sold and how many deaths or injuries?? Pretty good odds IMO.

I am in no way a hater or uncaring, I do have Young children with the youngest being 8 months old and have never had a problem with the blinds.

On the blind thing
: It is up to the end consumer to have enough smarts to keep the friggin cords out of reach.
