Can anyone give me some insight on paypal. I was going to order something today and they recommended to use paypal. I google paypal to find out about it and one of the first sites that came up was what a rip off they were, you will get burned using it, class action suites, loose your money using it, not trust worthy and the list goes on. Even ex employees(so they say) come on with testimonials on how bad and dishonest it is. Is any of this true? Could someone enlighten a Northern Neighbor before I use it. Tks in advance. Very:confused:

Re: PayPal

I use PayPal all the time. I have never had any problems but I link it to a separate checking account with only a small balance. Paypal takes a percentage of the amount sent. OK for the buyer but can get costly for the seller.

Re: PayPal

I have used PP both as a seller and buyer - no problems. Like OMC, I wouldn't dare give them access to my primary bank accounts. I set up separate ones for trading. Only thing that bothers me is that when I sell something, even though the funds appear in my PP account, when I transfer them to my bank account, it takes about 3 days. PP say's it's the banks fault. I dunno. I understand PP is owned by eBay.

Re: PayPal

It sure sounds like Paypal is not what some sites on google say it is but it is very honest. I am assuming you have to join it with account number. Can you use a credit card instead of an active account number? We don't have this in Canada but it sounds more like a good thing.

Re: PayPal

paypal is now owned by or affiliated with ebay. not sure which. i have never had an issue w/ paypal, and i use them to buy and sell on ebay. <br /><br />i do note that approx. 90% of ebay buyers pay me via paypal. i do believe that accepting paypal makes a difference for those buying run of the mill ebay items imo. yep, ebays and paypals fees cut into my "profit", but is just a cost of doing business imo.

I don't quite understand, "We don't have this in Canada"<br />I know people that have a paypal account from Canada that is set up through their bank.

Re: PayPal

I've used PayPal almost since they first came to be... Not one problem. <br />I've had a few deadbeat sellers that I bought from and PayPal jumped all over them and got my money back.<br /><br />I also keep a separate bank account strictly for interenet purchases. That account is also tied to PayPal. Don't ever use your primary account!<br /><br />Their fees have gone up a bit since the beginning (for sellers), but think of it this way... How much would it cost you to advertise in your local fish wrapper? And how many people would your ad get to?<br /><br />I'm not complaining on their fees quite yet...<br /><br />Good service. AA++<br /><br />H.

Re: PayPal

The reason it takes 3 days to get the money into your account I believe is that they setup a Fed ACH which uses the Fed reserve accounts to move the money. Other than doing a wire transfer, which is costly, this is the most effective way of doing it.

Re: PayPal

I like Paypal, I have used it since it inception. They are very prompt when an issue comes up. I got shanked by an ebay seller, and Paypal had my money back within a few days.

Re: PayPal

PayPal is owned by ebay now, for about a year. It was a separate company before that.<br /><br />I to have used them for about 4-5 years.<br />If paypal account is empty, it takes funds out of a separate account to complete the purchase.<br /><br />*** About 6 weeks ago, my girlfriend had 2 purchases delayed, waiting for "paypal echeck to clear."<br /><br />I check my account and the money was sent within minutes, but it took 3 days for the seller to get the funds.<br /><br />Anyone else ever have this happen??<br /><br />And yes, paypal will work for you if you are a buyer.<br />But they will not help a bit if you are a seller and get ripped off by someone that uses a stolen card to make purchases from you. In fact, they will freeze your account funds. It doesn't matter if you have $50 or $5000 in your account, its all frozen for 6 months. Yes, I have firsthand experience with this. It happened to my former girlfriend while she was living with me 4 years ago. She lost the $23 from the transaction and had her $12 frozen for 6 months.

Re: PayPal

Thanks folks for all your input and info about PayPal. I will now do it and not have any bad feelings about it. When I say we don't have it in Canada I guess I mean until you "join it" you are not registered with Paypal. I have never heard of PayPal until I got onto the internet so it might be another reason I didn't know it. I couldn't go to my bank and ask about PayPal. At least I don't think I could.

Malibu, I believe what you ran into on your Google search is quite common in that those disgruntled with any little thing about anybody complain the loudest. Those who are satisfied, will gladly say so if asked, but don't necessarily run off and post it on every website they come across. <br /><br />Web searches can be quite beneficial, just keep in mind that you have to consider the scource.

Re: PayPal

if we all based our lives on what we got from a google search, we would be in serious trouble.<br /><br />maybe we are, who knows.<br /><br />i use paypal both for selling and purchasing. its easy and pain free. they crage a fat 3 percent to the person who RECIEVES the money, but to send it is free.
