Re: PDA Diagnostics - cost?
I'm sorry, my post was a bit confusing.

What I meant is my dealer would quickly hook up the engine and check for codes FOR FREE. It might not even be throwing codes, but I'd like to know either way. Clearly, if there were a problem, he'd then go about fixing it and getting paid for the work. I've seen him check it on the computer, it is a quick and simple process. But he is 5 hours away.

The nearest Evinrude shop to my home is 2 hours away BUT he wants $140 to simply run the diagnostic. I'm irritated as well because he won't let me make an appointment and wait while he does the work. I have to leave the grounds and they will call me on my cell (I don't own one) when it is done. What do I do? Wait in my truck in the street for 5 hours until they get around to it and come knock on my window? Which just adds to the hassle as I have to take an entire day off work to have a 15 minute job done.

It would seem a helpful and reasonable mechanic would understand and ask me to bring it in at 4:30pm and he'd spend the last half hour of the day putting it on the computer.

I could understand paying $50 to $75 job as everyone needs to make a living. But $140?

I've owned boats all my life. I understand how it all works. But given what they charge and the distance I have to bring the boat, I can't see why they won't work with me a little on my logistics.

Mostly I'm upset as this motor has broken down constantly (lower unit(s), powerhead, oil pump, injector bolt, water hoses). And normally right during the height of fishing season. And here I am again, centering life around trying to keep it running.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but one of the guys at Evinrude said it could be a minor (at this point) fuel supply issue and it could be throwing codes but unless they are serious enough the warning light and/or horn will not go off?

Bitter
