Pedestal seat repair

I have a ranger boat and the backs on the pedestals seats need to be replaced. I've pulled the vinyl off and the frame is 1/2" plywood. Is it necessary to use marine grade ply or can I get by with an exterior grade ply and sealing it with a good water sealer?

I can't find 1/2" marine plywood locally only 3/4" and I believe that would be too thick.

Anyone have any advice or been down this road before??

Re: Pedestal seat repair

I re-did a front seat in my Bow rider. I used 1/2" CDX exterior grade plywood. I sealed it with Resin/Harder mixed as the MFG (Evercoat) recommended.
I re-covered the seat with the existing vinyl and
5 years later NO problems.
