'Pee hole,' Tell-tale, or Overboard indicator?

Good evening,

Pardon my ignorance, but the more I do work on my motor, the more I learn. In reading up on the cooling system, the following question arose...

I've heard of the 'Pee Hole' being the way to tell if the motor is cooling, does this refer to the port in the bottom of the engine cover that is connected to the tube from the exhaust cover? And does this 'pee' when the water pump is fully functional?

I had been shown before that the 1/4" hole in the aft of the exhaust housing was where to look for water to indicate a green water pump, but the more I look at it, the less it looks like it'd be fed by the water pump unless I'm missing some parts since it looks like it is just a hole into the exhaust housing.

Thanks for any clarification...

you are correct the tale tell, which the femine members prefer, is located on the rear starboard side of the lower cowl. it indicates that the water pump is functioning. IT DOES NOT indicate that the thermostat is opening, and cooling the block. we all assume that if you have a good stream, the motor is cooling, but that is not so.

Thanks for the info. So what is the tiny hole in the aft of the exhaust housing?
