Hello. I posted this info inside a different thread, but I thought I would post a brand new thread to see if anyone has ever heard of this problem.

For a long time I have had some trouble shifting my 1999 Merc 454Mag with Bravo 3 into forward gear. Thought it might have been shift cable- it wasn't. Mechanic took drive (upper) apart and was shocked. My upper gear case is filled with flakes of paint that are coming off of the INSIDE of the drive housing. These paint chips are getting into the cone clutch and causing problems with the shifting. He told me these aren't even supposed to HAVE any paint on the inside. He's going to bead-blast the drive casing inside and clean/reassamble the drive. All the gears, clutch, etc, seem fine.

Anybody ever heard of this problem?

I hope his $600 worth of labor will fix the shifting problem I'm having.

Tony
