Hi guys, its been awhile since i visited this forum... guess thats a good thing... anyways, i am back because i have a slight problem... i have a 92 outboard yamaha prov 200hp model p200tlrq that i had to rebuilt the carb... from my recent researches i have found that the air mixture screw is 1 1/4 turn out and a link and sync is needed... however i do not have a tool for that... long story short, i put everything back together and adjust the air screw and idle screw... the motor idles fine between 6000 and 7000... and seems to perform fine... im just curious since i did not perform the link and sync is there anything i should be worried about? I did adjust the idle screw and air mixture after all... please advise... thanks in advance.

your motor should not be idling between 6K & 7K

you do not need a special tool to follow the link and sync procedure in the service manual.
get one for your motor if you work on it yourself

the procedure sets all of the throttle plates to open/close the same along with timing pick up among other things

i will be picking up a manual as you suggested... but in the mean time, what rpm should my motor idle at?

got my manual... its says 1 1/4 turn plus or minus 1/4 for mixture screw... idle speed should be between 650 - 720rpm... link and sync if im understanding correctly is adjusting the linkage to they open the butterflies simultaneously on throttle... their is no fine tune details on this manual regarding link and sync... appears to be a procedure to do it by eye..?? can anyone verify the procedure for me?

If carbs are cleaned properly , setting to factory spec it should run well.
setting each carb idle mix screws can be done with a good Tach.

multi cylinder outboard motors is like setting many single cylinder motors tied to a single crankshaft. not easy if some carb passage is plugging.

As long as all of the throttle plates close completely and are synced together at that point so all are opening the same, and timing is set, along with timing pick up, and carbs are clean and set to spec you shuld be good to go.
You do have a little to play with on each carb, but it is not much in adjustment
