I dumped some of Rot Doctor's penetrating epoxy down my lag scew holes on Friday. After 12 hrs, the level hadnt gone down. I had filled the holes to the brim. I was excited because the wood must be in good condition. Today, Tuesday, I went out to epoxy wood plugs in. (the holes had been over drilled). Now there is this white jelly goo in there. I pulled some of it out of one hole, and that little bit seems to have hardened in the past few hours. Is something wrong, or do I just need to wait a while longer for it to fully cure. The holes seemed dry, and I had vacuumed out all the loose debris that was in them. The stringers are in great condition, no rot.

I would email the Rot Doctor about that BUT I would bet that it did not absorb and turned to gel because the wood is soaked.

I poured CPES down the mount holes in my new wood for days and days. It finally quit absorbing and did kind of turn into a semi hardened gel.

Re: Penetrating epoxy ?s

I had a little CPES left over, so I let it cure in the bottom of the cup i was using. When it cured, it was about the consistency between cured silicone caulk and ballistic gelatin, with a yellowish-milky translucent appearance. If you go to the website, in the description of the product they state that their epoxy remains flexible, and not brittle like petro-based epoxy. I think this is what you have.

Hope this helps!

M
