There is a web site that sells Pennzoil 100% synthetic oil for a really good price! I just cannot for the life of me find it again. Anyone out there know of the web site? The price for gallons with shipping was around $20.00. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mitch

Dude,
Walmart sells the Pennzoil Synthetic oil. I am pretty sure it is the same stuff. I use it in my Optimax 150.

If they don't go to the store manager and order it. They will stock it if there is adequate demand. BTDT

You can order case lots on Wal-Mart's web site and have it drop shipped in your name to the local WAL-Mart.

I buy mine at Menards. About $21 a gallon cash and carry.

tis good stuff.

Thanks all! My local Walmart does not stock the Pennzoil 100% Synthetic. I'll try the website, There is another web site that I have lost track of that sells penzoil products quite cheaply. I just cannot remember the name or find it on any search engine. If anyone has heard of it please let me know. Thanks,
Mitch

Walmart pulled everything automotive off'n the web. Menards doesn't have online product listing.

The oil price is ok, but shipping is $30&change for 4 gallons. That makes it almost $70 for 4 gallons, not really a bargin.

J. Martin - You found the web site!! It was oil-store.com. Thanks. The cost of pennzoil 100% synthetic to my home is $23 and change per gallon. I have not found it for any less anywhere. Walmart will not stock it in my location as they could not sell enough of it. I have read the various threads on synthetic oil and Amsoil seems pretty good also. I run a 2000, 200 hp carbed mercury. The pennzoil and star-tron seemed to have cut down the smoking a great deal. I also run sea foam in the fuel. Thanks again to all!

I don't think you need the Star-tron if you are running SeaFoam, they both do the same thing. Actually, if you run clean fresh fuel, you don't need either. As long as you are running pure synthetic oil, you are are not going to get much, if any, carbon build up, and yes the synthetic oil definately reduces the smoke and make the engine run clean.
Just my 2 cents if it is even worth that much. :-}

From what I've seen, AmZoil reasonable price is junk and hurts engines, the extreme price stuff works, but drains yer wallet.

For ordinary running, it's hard to beat the PennZoil full synthetic for outboards. It lubes well and runs cleaner than OEM oil. If you're into extreme performance, Alisyn is the way to go.

I either run Pen syn or Merc prem plus. I also run Sea Foam for several reasons.

If you can be dead in the water (idling in F) and hammer down on it, look back and see NO oil cloud, you must be doing something right. That's what it looks like behind my boat.....'02 Merc 90 hp 2 cycle.

That's because at idle you're at about 100:1. When you hammer it, that's what ya got till the carbs refill once. (or the gas lines) It'd better be good oil.

I don't know which the VRO oiler works. Thought it was the other way around. Why do I think it's the other way? dunno.

On other engines/oils the smoke comes from the combustion chambers loading up I guess. I always had a cloud of smoke on takeoff after idling around.

Re: Pennzoil synthetic oil??

Well, I was out feeding awhile ago and dropped by the shop and checked the manual. All the mid range engines of that time frame have a VRO set up for 80:1 at idle, and 50:1 at WOT. Obviously some sort of progression between the two extremes.

So John you were in the right direction. I would have thought that at lower speeds you needed more oil because the circulation of the fuel mix through the engine wouldn't be as good at the lower rpm's; but I guess not.

I guess they do it to reduce fouling for trollers and all.

So at WOT they must use more oil cause of the higher heat in the engine. I guess that's why at low speeds you have stat control of cooling and at mid to max you have open ports.

I would bet there's a foot of engine parts at the bottom of lake X, put there while Mercury was figuring it all out.

They smoke on the hole shot because at slow speeds, some unburned fuel is just hanging out in the exhaust system. The gas evaporates off, and the oil just lays there. When you hammer it and start sending some good hot exhaust through it, the oil burns into the exhaust.

A smokeless takeoff could be a sign of idle mix being lean enough to hurt things.
