Hello everyone. I am starting to repair an 85 bayliner capri and need some help. I bought a manual on eBay and one online in PDF format, but I either have the wrong ones or they do not cover what I need.
When I started the engine (with muffs), water seemed to get into the motor housing. I was baffled until someone informed me about freeze plugs. I could not find anything wrong and it was difficult to observe since the carb needs new gaskets and stalls on idle. That is the next project and I have the gasket kit (gas is seeping out).
I did notice that the water was coming out from the bottom of the exhaust/intake manifold. I felt underneath and there was a hole that was not plugged. It is hard to see and work under there because of space and clearance issues. I found the freeze plug in the motor housing and tried putting it back. It seems as though it is not going flush with the manifold or going recessed. There is another one next to it that is also not flush or recessed that was already there. I do not know if that one if in correct or not. I cannot view the plugs unless I take off the manifold.
I was wondering if someone that is familiar with this can help out. Do I need to take off the manifold and what parts (gaskets, ect) would I need to put it back on?
Thanks!
-Hank
