Hi all,
Apologies, third steering post from me! I'm going over the whole system in detail this week.

So, the actuator is a Penta 852741. No leaks on it, but where the steering cable goes in, I'm seeing a fair amount of slop. I get nearly a quarter turn of the steering at the helm before there is proper motion in the actuator. Is there a way this can be tightened up? I can't seem to find much info or service manuals on these things.

Thanks in advance!

For the most part no. There will be some play always with cable steering. It increases from wear in the cable, and from the slop between the end of the cable and the nut attaching it to the power steering actuator.

Can be lessened from replacing the cable, but no way to get rid of all of it will keeping standard system

Ayuh,..... If yer seein' the slop in the cable, AD is dead-on,.....
The inner cable wears a groove in the outer casin', causin' the slop,.... Replacin' the cable is the cure,.....

If yer seein' the slop in the actuator, that's the motion of the hyd. valve in the actuator, which goes away when ya start the motor,.....
