Question, the air from the tappet cover that goes right into the flame arrest, why is this? It seems like you would want cold air going into the carb, ya know like cold air intakes for cars. I guess, why would I want the hot, oily air going into the carb?

How about hot oily air covering everything in an enclosed engine compartment? That might be a good thing however, would be a self replentishing corrosion protection.

hahahah seen that before :)
Mikebc
someplace in the last few days I explained why it was set up that way and why most boats dont run a PCV valve.

What if it was vented outside? Just tell me if this is silly, I was just surprised to see it set up like this.

Boats have been using this method of venting for ever, and has never been a problem.
You're not running a race engine here, it's a boat engine that will never see the temps you're talking about.

the volume of air/fumes that comes out the crankcase vent is so small compared to the volume of air that gets drawn into the carb when the engine is under load that it dosnt matter..

now if u were to really feed your carb nice cool air from outside the hot engine compartment that might make it go better..

trog100

Then the back of your boat would get oily! :D
And then we would have a whole new "emissions" problem, wouldn't we?
