Re: Performance Mods
Hate to say it, but if you want more power, get more motor. Modifying an outboard motor may seem like a good idea, but often has unintended consequences. You can't just change one thing and expect more performance. More compression means higher combustion temps which means more cooling needed (either through higher octane fuel or lowering the timing). More compression may mean more power, IF you have more fuel to deliver. That means a bigger carb. Bigger carb can't feed more fuel because the intake is still the same size. Bigger intake. Now the restriction is at the intake ports. Okay, bigger ports. Now the restriction is at the exhaust ports. Okay, bigger exhaust ports. Now the restriction is at the exhaust cavity. Okay, use the exhaust from a later 135/140. Okay, well your motor is only 92 cubes, where the 135/140 is a 99 cube. Now you're several hundred dollars and many hours into your modification and when you start the motor, it doesn't idle well. Unintended consequences....
