I want to add a flush device to my 5.7. The Perko looks nice but i am concerned about it being plastic. Anyone use this and have any advice. Any other flush devices to recommend?

You might give the model of 5.7 that you have so we have a clearer picture. I`m guessing that your engine does not have the factory "blue" flush port. You might be able to retrofit with the "blue" port for near the cost of the aftermarket unit.

It is a 2000 5.7GSi. No blue port. It has a flush system that feeds into the bottom of the block. I would prefer one that i can use to run the engine with. I will look into the blue port. Do you know id i can use the blue port while still in the water? I occasionally leave the boat in the water for up to a week and want to flush it while tied to the dock. I am not sure how the Blue port one works or where I find the parts for it.

The blue port is essentially a T into the incoming raw water supply hose at the right location with a threaded cap on the end of it. I just looked at a parts price for each component and the pieces are not that expensive. I think the port came about around `05-`06, so you might want to check the VP parts site for a newer model 5.7 and get you some parts numbers there.
You can use the "blue" port while the boat is in the water.

Any issue with too much pressure from the hose on this since it is just a “T”? Looks to be way more reasonable but i don’t want to “hose” anything up. LOL

I have a 1999 5.7 GSI so it does not have the blue port flush on it. I took a look at one of the parts suppliers who has identified what parts are needed to retrofit the older motors. Does not look like a particularly tough job to do and would not be expensive. What I guess I don’t fully understand is what advantage this would provide over using muffs on the outdrive. I know several had said that you can flush the engine while the boat is in the water but I must be missing something. Would not the outdrive still suck in raw water defeating the whole purpose. I have a swim platform over my outdrive and to be honest, I have never really taken a look over the stern to see if the inlet passages actually come out of the water when fully up and besides is not potentially damaging to the ujoints to be running the engine with the outdrive fully up?

Never had an issue with too much water pressure at my house, on city water, not sure what the pressure is, but I usually turn on full open when I use it.

The raw water lake water never gets to the engine as the hose water is forced into the pump ahead of it.

So when running in the water, you continue with the outdrive fully down? This now seems to make more sense.

I just don't want to force to much water in under too much pressure. Maybe the extra pressure would go back out thru the outdrive? that would give an added bonus of flushing out the Power Steering cooler as well? Just trying to figure out the best solution that is the easiest to do. If its easy it will likely be done more regularly.

May be a worthwhile mod then. It is certainly cheap enough and easy enough to do. May go ahead with it at some point.
