Wondering why they don't make a stainless impeller to avoid ever having to worry about them wearing out.

Ayuh,... When you look at an impeller pump,+ understand just how it works,....
You'll understand Why SSteel isn't a viable material....
It just don't bend, 'n recover....

Many years ago they used 2 brass gears instead of a rubber impeller. Didn't work any better and in some cases not as well ---- no suction to speak of.
