Starting to think summer thoughts here in Winterpeg.

Looking at the Pertronix Distributor with igniter 2 (D230800) for my Ford 302 888 engine to replace the points and 42 year old Mercury Marine distributor. Anyone do this already? What coil is recommended to go with and hookup advice for the tach is appreciated. Thanks.

I personally would keep the points, or just get a pertronix module to add to your points dizzy

I'd go with the pertronix setup myself. I did both of my motors and like the faster engine starts and no worry maintenance.

I would also believe that the tach setup is no different than points. I installed mine in 20 min each engine and have been chugging along happily for 2 seasons with them.

I'd also suggest reading the instructions and swapping the coil for a matched set with the module.

look into some of my old posts...you'll get some insight into what your in for as far as opinions go not only about switching from points, but also what to do and how it's done.

good luck

Thanks Benny67. Just ordered one from a local shop. I found some earlier posts in the setup. Looks easy.

I converted my last boat over and used a flamethrower 2 coil also. If you go with a coil change also you may be able to bypass the ballast wire completely. I like the upgrade. My dad put one in his 66 Mustang in the mid-late 90's.

Not that i'd needed it...yet..but I got a spare module I keep on board just in case. Even having a twin screw, I don't like coming in one 1 engine if I can help it.
