I installed a 91146a ignitor 2 this weekend. After looking at several posts on the topic here, I picked up the 12v off of the starter post where the purple, yellow comes off of. I left the both original wires on the coil.
Is this OK?
Initially the motor would just backfire. I removed the cap, and found that the magnet ring wouldnt allow the rotor button to go all the way down, I ground the bottom off of the button, and it worked fine.
I double and triple checked the ring, and it was all the way down.
I realize I may have the wrong button, but the boat has run fine with it for 2 years.

Rick Edwards

87 Glastream
140 Mercruiser

Re: pertronix wiring

I had the same issue with the plastic ring. I had to scrape out some plastic from the inside of the ring with a razor to get it to "sit down" on the camshaft. It worked great after that. I check it every now and then and it is still tight and inline.
