Does anyone have a good way to re-install the flywheel on a 86 125 hp? I'm having a heck of a time with the key falling out. Any shortcuts or help - tips will be appreciated.
Thanks

First thing is make sure you have the right key. It should be a snug fit. If you are sure its the correct one you can use a dab of grease to hold it in place while you slip the fly wheel on. Be sure to torque it down to specs.

I had to have my neighbor hold a spotlight above the flywheel while i stuck my face right down on it to make sure i was lining it up right! It took about 15 tries to not knock the key out, but I finally got it! They are a pain sometimes.

Make sure there are no burrs on the key or the slots in the flywheel and shaft. Put wheel bearing grease on the key and angle it so that the upper part is in more towards the shaft and the lower part is sticking out. Now push the flywheel into place and the key will center itself.

Thanks folks for the advice. The way I finally got it was use plumbers waterproof grease to hold the key - super sticky stuff. Also I painted the top of the key with white out correction fluid so I could shine the light down from the top to get a better alignment. I hope this will help someone along the way. Again, thanks for all the advice.
