Do any of yall out there give your dogs Triflexis for fleas, heart worm and other parasites?

We've been giving it to Pearl our little maltipoo for three years with out any problem. Today, however, we gave her the monthly pill and its made her ill. No vomiting or anything that. Mostly just strange behaviour like arching her neck up looking at the ceiling and licking her nose and she would yelp if you pressed on her stomach. This pill is the only thing I can attribute this to.

Our neighbor is a long time vet tech and i asked her to take a look at Pearl and she says theres nothing that looks life threatening. Right now she's asleep under a blanket on the couch.

Any of yall use it or have had any issues with it?

Can I assume the pill looked the same as it always has? Any chance she's gotten into something? I guess if the vet tech can't tell anything I sure can't.

Re: Pet Med Question.....

Do you do the pills 12 months/year?
Our dog gets them for 7 months/year....the season down there may go all year.
If the dog has been getting the pills continuously...no problem.
But if you start and stop the pills each year as we do up here, yoyu should get the dog tested for HW before starting the pills.

Also, we seem to get a different pill each year.
Had Triflexis...also Interceptor and one other....name escapes me.

You may want to rotate them so the dog doesn't build up a reaction....and I don't know that it can happen, but worth asking.

What are the possible side effects of Trifexis:
Side effects that may occur include vomiting. If vomiting occurs within one hour of administration, redose with another full dose. Other side effects may occur. Continue giving Trifexis chewable tablets and talk to your veterinarian if your pet experiences decreased appetite, lethargy or decreased activity, diarrhea, cough, increased thirst, vocalization, increased appetite, redness of the skin, hyperactivity and excessive salivation. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or especially bothersome to the pet.

We've been giving the pill every month for 3 years not skipping a month. She's never had a problem with it before that I'm aware of. We've always given her the pill in the mornings when we leave to go to work and she's always been fine when we got home around 5.

I'm possitive she hasn't gotten in to anything cause she was totally fine this morning. We gave her the pill around 10 and she started acting wierd around 2:30 or 3.

Trifexis is making dogs sick and killing some. Do a Google search and you will see. We took both our dogs of it.

I looked at the box these pills came in. I just bought them at her last appointment at the bet cause we were out. she was weighed and tipped the scale at 10.7 pounds and the pill the gave us was for a 10 to 20 lb. dog instead of the 5 to 10 lb. dog like shes been taking. I'm sure that had something to do with it.

Like I said in the first post, she's been taking the pill for three years with out an issue. The only difference is the size of the doseage.

Say what?
Given the number of dogs that are taking Trifexis for very sound reasons, you could probably say with justification that a lot of dogs taking Trifexis have died.
You know what? A lot of dogs that lived in good homes, were fed healthy diets, and had loving families, also have died.
Ergo, dogs that get fed well, have good homes, and loving families are at risk???

You are well within your rights to take your dogs off any medication that you wish.
You are also well within your rights to voice an opinion that that medication is dangerous.

I am well within my rights, by the same token, to point out that your basis is weak or non-existent, and that any sort of science that might back your claim is not there.

Google your suggested topic and you get hits of the quality of "www.vetskilledmydog.forum.idlegossipblogspot.com" and the like.

Wow.

I firmly believe that the dosage going up from 5 to 10 lb to 10 to 20 dogs is why she got sick. I'm going to take the remaining pills back to the vet and see if he will swap the remaining 5 pills out for 5 to 10 lb pills. I think he might do it since he does sell them individually.

Makes perfect sense.

Ran in to Pearl's vet at the bank yesterday, told him what happened and asked if he would swap the remaining 5 10/20 lb. pills out for some 5/10 pills and he said "no problem" he'd be glad to.
