"Phantom" Wire

My '06 Merc 4.3L carb 190HP engine has a loose, (phantom), black wire behind the Flame Arrestor that I don't know where it goes. I searched for loose screws/connectors, but could not find any. The wire is a thin, black wire with a round, flat connector at the end. Being its a black-colored wire, could it be safe to assume it's a ground wire and ground it somewhere on the block? Anyone else had the same situation?

BTW, I have not noticed anything electrical malfunctioning anywhere.

Wiring harnesses are universal to some extent. It's more than likely an extra in your set up............... No need to connect it.................unless you want to.

I'd at least check it with a multimeter to make sure it doesn't have voltage to it when the engine is running or any switches are on.

Regardless, I'd at least tape it up so it can't short against anything.

I would tape it good also. Than leave it. After checking it's not live. Could be for a hour meter not installed,or another few options.

I tested the wire with the meter and is dead, so I taped it and leaving it alone.

Great info guys, appreciate all the responces.
