I was organizing the photos on my PC last night and wondered if anyone has a methodology for organizing photos or uses a software product to organize and manage your photos?

What we do is create a new directory named "captured yyyy/mm/dd" every time the camera is loaded to the PC. The date is of the day the camera is saved to the PC. That way the photos are in groups by date. What sometimes happens is the camera is downloaded, but not deleted, so the next time photos are downloaded, duplicate pictures are in two different directories. Seeing as the camera can hold up to 250 photos, duplicates become frequent. So last night I was cleaning up directories getting rid or dups.

As I scanned back-to-back directories for dup photos, I realized that at least some of the photos should be grouped by subject, not just date. Like restoring my boat, or my basement project, or recurring events like Christmas, Birthdays, etc. So I started a few new directories by subject and copied photos from various other directories into them.

It was at that point when I thought there should be software that organizes photos for you. If you know of any, please give us your comments on it.

Thanks,

Mark.

PS, Every time the camera is loaded to the PC, I drag and drop a copy of the folder to a DVD so I have a hard copy backup of all photos on the PC on DVD. After the copy is complete, then I delete the photos from the camera.
