Picked up a Cadillac

Hey Guys. I recently picked up what I believe to be a late 50s Cadillac tinny & I'm in need of an outboard. The last boat I had (over two years ago) was I/O & I don't have much experience with outboards. I'd really like to throw on a late 50s Evinrude or Johnson for the look, but I'm concerned about the lack of parts. I've been looking into Johnson 9.5s, 9.9s, 15s, & 25hp. The 9.9s seem to be prevalent, but I'm concerned they might not have enough umph. Max load with the fam of 4 would be around 700lbs. The rest of the time it'd just be me fishing.

Any outboard suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My budget is under $600. I've got other plans knocking around for a future fabs/restore, but for now I need a power supply. Here's a few pics...

Nice looking, it come painted & detailed already, or did you paint it?

Welcome to iboats, w/out specs for you hull: Length, beam, transom height, rated max load (people, gear, gas & motor) & max hp rating, it will be tough to make a definite recommendation on a motor. Yours may not be a 1954, but it was the only Cadillac brochure showing specs:

Thanks. It came painted this way. That paint is not too bad, but it's definitely Monet. The closer you get the more imperfections you see, but I don't really care. I just wanted something simple this round.

From what I've read I believe the boat to be from the late 50s. She's just over 14' & the transom height is about 16" so I reckon I'd need a short shaft. Going to look at a 18hp 71 Evinrude in the morning.

18hp will push that Caddy pretty good. They were in-exact with boat lengths, may be still. My 1963 15' Jet is actually 14' 9" and the same year 16' Jupiter is 16' 3". You'd think they'd err similarly across models...

When you get a motor mounted & drop her back in the water, post up some afloat pix. If the Evinrude needs any attention, the Johnson/Evinrude forum is a great resource.

Have a good fall fishing from your new Cadillac.
